Step 1: Application and Intake

Once passed as a donor, you will also undergo medical and psychological evaluations, which could take up to several weeks.

Step 2: Matching and Screening

If you have made it to this step, then you would move on to schedule a medical screening, which includes an overview of your medical history and a consultation with the doctor. This step tends to take longer since a number of factors will be taken into consideration and you will be meeting with an attorney.

Step 3: Medical Injections and Monitoring

After phase 2, you need to start medication with your next menstrual cycle. You will receive a series of injections. You also have to attend morning monitoring appointments to get lab results to check your medical reactions. The last injection is given to the donor 36 hours before the egg retrieval. Usually, this step takes about 2 to 4 weeks.

Step 4: Egg Retrieval

If you’ve entered this stage, then it means you are truly an egg donor. During the retrieval surgery, you will be placed under twilight anesthesia, but this is an outpatient procedure that lasts about 30 minutes. Doctors retrieve the eggs from each ovary through the vaginal wall using a small needle guided by an ultrasound probe.
