In 1971, Hosea Williams founded a non-profit foundation, Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless, widely known in Atlanta for providing hot meals, haircuts, clothing, and other services for the needy on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Easter Sunday each year.
Here at Covenant House Georgia, we have been blessed with the opportunity to provide Atlanta's homeless youth ages 18 - 21 with hope, sanctuary, and a hot meal before bedtime. As we continue to increase our capacity to serve more and more youth, we are in need of volunteers to Prepare and Share a Meal with our youth.
Homeless advocate Marshall Rancifer learned about the policy this past weekend. At Hurt Park, he encountered Georgia State University Police giving out flyers to people trying to distribute food. The flyers, which include the city seal, said that feeding the homeless on streets or in parks requires a permit.

We have ongoing volunteer opportunities for youth and adults who are 12 years in age and older. If you would like to bring a volunteer group of children that are under 12 years in age, you must contact us for project approval.
Volunteer orientation, which will be available once you create your account, is required to volunteer at the Day Center during the week. If you do not have access to the internet, you can come in and attend one of our scheduled welcome sessions.
Volunteers who register and attend any of our posted volunteer opportunities are eligible to receive credit for any service hours completed. Hours can be verified on timesheets given by appointing agencies, as well as on our official letterhead.
