Mar 17, 2022 · We recommend visiting a Sustainable Salon for the ponytail chop, but if there are no Sustainable Salons in your local area we do accept ponytail donations via the post. If you are donating via post, we suggest downloading the Ponytail Donation Kit which includes instructions on how to correctly prepare and cut your hair for donation.
You can make your financial donation on the Hair Donation form by selecting “Include Monetary Donation” from the drop-down menu. If you use our online Hair Donation form and include a print out of your barcode with the donation, you can expect a thank you within 60 days of Wigs For Kids receiving your ponytail.

Make sure hair is a minimum of 12 inches for proper hair donation length. We encourage you to wait and grow a longer ponytail (14+ inches) to have the most impact on a child in need.

The hair can be cut anywhere from the head as long as it is long enough and in good condition. Usually hair is put into a ponytail and the hair is cut right above the ponytail. As far as the salon, you can have your stylist cut it for donation when you are getting a regular haircut.Nov 8, 2017
You can go to a salon and have it cut off or you can even cut your own hair off if you prefer. You just need to follow the guidelines set by the organization that takes the donations. Some prefer hair in one ponytail or braid, while others prefer your hair in several sections so the hair is cut off more evenly.
Anyone can cut your hair. We encourage all of our donors to go to a salon they are already familiar with to ensure their comfort when donating.
Locks of Love Guidelines For Acceptable Donations: Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable. A past haircut is usable only if it was preserved in a ponytail or braid. A Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable.Aug 11, 2021
