Are there types of hair I can't donate? Some organizations may not take hair that is colored/bleached, permed, dreadlocked, or gray.
When sectioned properly, one donor's head of hair is 4 to 6 ponytails. Since ponytails are not uniform in length or texture, it takes approximately 4 or 5 donors to create one wig.
For children who have lost their hair, the organization Wigs for Kids provides wigs that are completely made of human hair and custom-made for each recipient. Even better, they are made so that they won't come off - kids can play and engage in their normal activities without worrying about keeping their wig in place.

Hair We Share and Children with Hair Loss both accept colored or grey but not highlighted hair over 8 inches. Locks of Love takes hair colored or grey but not over-processed or bleached hair over 10 inches.
Who can donate? Boy or girl – it doesn't matter. And for the most part it doesn't matter what type your hair is – straight or curly, fine or thick, etc. Most of the organizations do not accept hair that has been dyed or bleached though, and several do not accept grey hair – so it is a bit limited to younger people.
