Lightly worn shoes of any size can be dropped off, contact-free, at the WaterStep headquarters on Myrtle Street in Louisville, Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to a press release, athletic shoes are preferred, but all styles are accepted.

Where are Waterstep shoes collected?

The shoes are collected by volunteers and brought to our headquarters in Old Louisville (shoes are pictured below waiting to be sorted). When COVID hit in March and everything shut down, the shoes stopped coming in and we had to temporarily close the building to volunteers. We were a bit concerned how we were going to move forward during the pandemic.

In the midst of their correspondence she mentioned that people were sick all the time in her community and she wished she could help them. Being an encouraging father Emmanuel began to make plans for the soon to be water project, really not expecting the impact it would have on his community.

Giving Clean Water To Those In Need

Faith, Lucy’s pen pal, had written letters to her friend explaining that her village didn’t have clean water to drink. So Lucy and her family brought a water filtration system to Faith’s community.

Used Shoe Drive

Wanting to do more, Lucy is partnering with WaterStep, a nonprofit that works to save lives with safe water, for a shoe drive. The hope is to collect as many used shoes as possible in the month of March to then re-sell to vendors.

Where Can You Drop Off You Used Shoes?

Thankfully Lucy already has a head start on her goal with around 12 boxes worth of shoes already collected. Naperville North will be holding their shoe drive from March 16-20.
