Across all the ways we provide help and hope to others - from bringing disaster relief, providing lifesaving blood and training in lifesaving skills, to reaching across borders to reconnect families and supporting military families - the American Red Cross makes a big impact.
The Red Cross has delivered lifesaving assistance to more than 229 million people around the world this past year. In 2012, we plan to expand this work to help even more individuals, communities and countries.
The Red Cross provides about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood cell components to donors. Your blood donations are used for patients in need of surgery, cancer treatment and transfusions for blood loss from traumatic injuries.
Plasma Donation: During a plasma donation, called plasmapheresis, blood is drawn from one arm and sent to the centrifuge that separates out the plasma. The red blood cells and platelets are then returned to you in the same arm.
Blood is essential to help patients survive surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. This lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation. The need for blood is constant. But only about 3% of age-eligible people donate blood yearly.
One donation provides up to four units of plasma for patients in need. As you can see, blood donations are one of the most important things you can do to help others in need. There is no substitute for blood, and it can’t be manufactured. Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages from all backgrounds.
Platelets help your body create clots to stop bleeding. Platelet donations are critical for patients who are fighting cancer, chronic diseases and traumatic injuries. The collection process is unique and a bit different than the whole blood donations, both arms are involved.
CMV is known as the cytomegalovirus. CMV is a flu-like virus to which an estimated 85% of adults in the United States will be exposed by the age of 40. This means that the majority of adults in the United States carry CMV antibodies. Unfortunately, these antibodies might pose a danger to particularly vulnerable patients.

Your monetary donation to the Red Cross helps provide food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support, recovery planning and other assistance during disasters.
We know a monetary donation is not always possible. Here are other ways you can join our mission.
Five Reasons Why Donating To The Red Cross Is Important. For 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, the American Red Cross provides relief for communities by providing shelter, food, water and blankets among many essentials to individuals and families in need of a helping hand.
The American Red Cross provides many means of assistance to people in need and every monetary donation or item donation, big or small, goes a long way in helping those who need it.
Seventy percent of Americans donate to charity and about three percent of income is donated. From canned goods and pints of blood to used clothing donations and bedding, the Red Cross takes all sorts of donations. The need for donations is constant and there are many benefits to donating:
You make a difference: Donations, whether clothes or blood or money, go to help those in need and can make a real difference in the life someone in need. Donations made at a Red Cross pickup station help the Red Cross respond to almost 64,000 nationwide disasters a year. There are many ways to give to the Red Cross as well.
Donating clothes or dropping that off at a Red Cross pickup spot is a better way to get rid of old clothes instead of throwing them out. Americans consume nearly 20 billion garments a year, nearly one piece of clothing per week.
It’s tax deductible: A donation is a selected charity is tax deductible for the value of the items donated. A chance to give back: More than 60 percent of high net worth donors choose giving back to the community as their main reason for donating and value of helping a person or people need can’t be measured.
The recovery fee charged for a unit of blood or blood product is used to cover the cost of recruiting donors, collecting the blood, testing the blood for > 20 parameters to ensure that the blood is as safe as possible, and delivering the blood to hospitals to be used for transfusing patients who need it.
No donations to the American Red Cross are used for the blood section of the organization so the recovery fee is necessary for the organization to continue their mission of providing the safest possible blood and blood products to the patients that they serve.
The Red Cross is a not for profit organization. No one person or group of people financially benefit from the act. Blood is one of those resources that cannot be manufactured in a pharmaceutical operation. Blood has a short shelf life—42 days in most cases, so the supply needs to constantly be replaced.
It goes on to state her alleged salary and explain how the nonprofit spends its money. This is not true. Evans left the nonprofit in 2005. Gail McGovern is the Red Cross’ current CEO. She’s led the nonprofit since 2008. Her annual salary in 2018 was $694,000. USA TODAY has reached out to Totman for comment.
The viral post, shared in April 2018 by Mike Totman, shows a woman who is identified as Marsha Evans and says she is the president and CEO of the American Red Cross.
Donating to charities definitely will help us to build a more diverse society or workplace.
When you give a donation, you will be able to set an example for the people around you. You will work as an inspiration for the people who might not have been donating. It means that charities will receive more donations and so it would be easier for them to work on their cause. You can also host a charity event to collect money for a special cause or organization.
Charity is an organization that is established to help the society in different ways. The donations can be used to help a group of people somewhere in the world, promoting recyclable products to save the world or by supporting sports and arts.
The first purpose of the charity match is to make this world a better place. The organizations will use the money you have donated for the production of good using recycled material. The products are then sold to the merchants that will sell them at a lower cost in the developing and poor countries. It helps to save the environment from chemicals. Such organizations work with the weight management companies to dispose of the non-recyclable products. Environment Sustainability is an important topic to help the world. You can Donate to environmental charities to support climate changes to help.
The aims of the charity have been divided into different categories that have approved by the law as charitable donations. It can be associated with the relief or prevention of poverty or promotion of culture, arts, science, technology, and heritage.
By giving, the donation to the NGOs that work for animals and natural habitat will provide them a chance to protect the forests, the animals, and plants. They work by developing different natural parks where animals can get jungle like the atmosphere or transferring them to a better habitat.
Every penny they have raised should be donated to achieve their aims. There are no shareholders or owners of a charity that can benefit from the charity donations. The charities have to be registered with the Charity Commission and they have to state their purpose and charitable objectives.
